McCarthy and Complicit Caucus Republicans Keep Choosing to Stick with Admitted Fraudster Santos
Washington, D.C. – In response to House Republicans failing to expel Representative George Santos from Congress, MoveOn Political Action Executive Director Rahna Epting issued the following statement:
“George Santos belongs in a courtroom—not in Congress—and he needs to be removed from office immediately. Kevin McCarthy is trying to hang on to his razor-thin majority by dragging out and delaying his responsibility to expel George Santos from Congress. Kicking this responsibility over to the Ethics Committee at this point is just a delay tactic to preserve MAGA Republican power and continue to embarrass the people of the 3rd District in New York whom George Santos deceived. Santos already pled guilty to fraud charges in Brazil, and every day he is allowed to remain in Congress, the people of his district are denied credible representation.
“The Complicit Caucus Republicans from moderate districts are the ones enabling McCarthy and his MAGA lieutenants, like Marjorie Taylor Greene, to continue to protect their narrow majority and allow a serial liar and fraudster like Santos to remain in office. This is why MoveOn has announced a seven-figure campaign to organize more than 600,000 MoveOn members in those Complicit Caucus districts to call out and remove them from office.”
As reported in Axios today and announced last month in Politico’s Weekly Score, MoveOn Political Action is targeting 18 vulnerable Republican House members from districts Biden carried in 2020—deemed the “Complicit Caucus,” for enabling and pushing the MAGA agenda in Washington. The program involves high-level organizing efforts with its 600,000+ members in these districts. MoveOn members will mobilize within each district to engage in actions, constituent office visits, relational organizing, phonebanking, canvassing, texting, and other events with allies. MoveOn will also pursue polling, research, paid media, and social media campaigning to flip these districts.
